Keyword Search - Finding a place to explore is just so easy!

When Mio first developed the Spirit software, we conducted empathic user research around the world, meeting and speaking to a wide range of people regarding their thoughts and concerns when they first use a GPS device. During the interviews, we identified two major problems that users frequently met: 1. it’s difficult to find places to go to using the GPS. They have no idea how to get started.2. If they do figure out how to begin, remembering and typing the whole address using an onscreen keyboard is really annoying and time-consuming. Is there anyway to make it more straightforward?

Listening to users’ concerns, we knew that searching for places needed to be improved by introducing a new and intuitive way to help GPS virgins easily find places they wanted to go to. After months of research and study, we realized that the best way of searching for an address was to follow the example of something we do everyday: search the web. To search for the results that best match what we want from the vast array of information available online, the answer to the problem is to use keywords, random words that you think of when you look for something.

Now, with Keyword Search on Mio GPS devices, finding your destination is easier than ever. You can input any words that pop out into your head, such as a branded store like “KFC” or the street name, instead of a full length address. The GPS swiftly lists the results in order; based on the relevancy of the keywords and the distance from your current locations. Furthermore, you can use combinations of keywords to narrow down your results. Just type the city name after the keyword and the GPS will list the POIs available in the area, just as quickly and as easily as searching online.

The next time, you get a new Mio GPS with Spirit software installed, remember to use keywords to locate services and experience how convenient it is to find places.
